She was born in the city of Neuss in Germany in 1976 and is a cardiac and artificial heart surgeon specialized in state-of-the-art artificial heart transplantation. Gürsoy, the daughter of an immigrant worker who came to Germany, became the only woman in Europe to perform a complete artificial heart transplant in 2012. She has received numerous awards for her surgical success and contributions to the field of artificial heart transplantation. In addition, Gürsoy was named "Female Doctor of the Year" in Germany in 2019.
Currently, she continues to serve as the Head of Cardiac Surgery at Clinic Bel Etage in Düsseldorf, while also working as a consultant surgeon in Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD) and Total Artificial Hearts (TAH).
