Prof. Dr. Itır Erhart studied English Literature and Philosophy at Boğaziçi University. She holds an M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge and a Ph.D. from Boğaziçi University. Since 2001, she has been teaching and conducting research at Istanbul Bilgi University on topics such as gender studies, human rights, media, sports sociology, civil society, and social entrepreneurship. She serves as the rector's advisor on Community Service and Sustainability.

In 2004, she began running marathons for social good. In 2008, she co-founded Adım Adım with five friends, which has since grown to 130,000 members and raised 169 million TL for 120 NGOs through sports. She is also a co-founder of the transparency platform Açık Açık and Açık Açık Social Enterprise. Within both social enterprises, she works on resource and capacity development for NGOs and impact measurement.

Itır Erhart was featured in the "Fark Yaratanlar" program in 2009 for her contributions to civil society. In 2014, she was selected as an Ashoka Fellow. She serves on the boards of Ashoka Turkey, the Theatre Cooperative, the Yayındayız Association, Inogar, the Impact Circles Foundation, and Bego Jeans, and she is a trustee of TEGV. She is also a partner in the İhtiyaç Haritası cooperative.

She has served as a jury member for various awards, including the Sardis Awards, TÜHİD Alâeddin Asna Award, Felis Awards, Sustainable Brands, Sustainable Future Awards, and the Women of the Soil Competition.
