Biography


Murathan Mungan, born in Istanbul, spent his childhood and youth in Mardin. He graduated from Ankara University's Faculty of Language, History, and Geography with a degree in Theater. He gained experience in various fields, working as a dramaturg in Istanbul, managing a youth festival, and serving as the editor for the culture and arts page of a daily newspaper. Additionally, he curated a special book collection for a publishing house. Mungan is well-known in the literary world for his poetry, stories, texts, essays, and critiques. His first book was published in 1980, marking the beginning of his writing career. He is also recognized as a playwright, and his works have been performed both nationally and internationally. He has also written film screenplays and radio plays. As an editor, Mungan has compiled numerous anthologies featuring works by local and international authors. He has also penned lyrics for significant songs and had his writings and works translated into many languages, gaining recognition on both national and international stages. With 17 books to his name, Mungan published his latest work, "995 km," in 2023. Murathan Mungan has actively participated in various events and festivals both in Turkey and abroad. In 2013, he delivered the closing speech at the London Book Fair, where Turkey was the theme country. Additionally, in 2018, he resided in Berlin as a guest of DAAD.
