Mehmet Okur was born in 1979 in Yalova. His first team was Oyak Renault. Later on, Mehmet Okur weared the jerseys of Tofaş and Anadolu Efes clubs and in his career there are 1 NBA championship, 3 championship of Turkey, 4 Turkey Cup and 2 Presidency Cup In addition, he played also in Anadolu Efes club which took the third place in Europe in 2000-2001 season. Okur, who also wore our National Team uniform, took part in the National Team squad which was the second in the 2001 European Championship. The successful basketball player has begun his NBA career with the Detroit Pistons. In addition to being the first Turkish athlete to win the NBA championship in 2004, he also played for All-Star. He also played in Utah Jazz and New Jersey Nets in NBA After his active career as a basketball player, Okur joined the team of coach of the Phoenix Suns team in the NBA and he achieved to become the first Turkish sportsman to achieve this honor.
