Demet was appointed to the newly created position of GroupM Turkey CEO in January 2011 to lead the restructuring of the company, which was founded in 2008, while initially retaining her CEO role in Mindshare Turkey. She oversees the management of the company’s media agencies in Turkey, including Maxus, MEC, MediaCom and Mindshare as well as the transformation of the media business through new media and technology operations, such as Xaxis and Connect. Parallel to WPP’s data and technology strategy, she also leads GroupM’s acquisitions in Turkey, such as aMVG and Directcomm in 2013 and 2015, respectively. As WPP Country Manager for Turkey, a newly created role she was assigned to in November 2013, Demet helps WPP companies across all marketing communication disciplines in identifying new business opportunities, potential acquisitions and investments and supports efforts to attract and retain the best talent in Turkey. Collectively, WPP companies, including associates, employ more than 1400 people in Turkey, generating revenues of US$135million. Prior to taking responsibility for managing GroupM’s operations in Turkey, Demet spent 10 years as CEO of Mindshare Turkey. During its third year, the agency was named Agency of the Year within Mindshare EMEA region and in 2007, it became the largest media agency in Turkey (RECMA).  Demet still acts as an advisor to Mindshare’s EMEA ExCo with a focus on market development and product rollout across the region. Demet, who was Turkey’s first ever media jury member at the Cannes Lions Festival, plays a prominent role in the Turkish Association of Advertising Agencies as deputy chairman in charge of media. She represents GroupM and WPP on the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Women’s Empowerment, is a member of the leadership group for Turkey’s Gender Parity Project, and was named among the “Women to Watch – Global Leader” in Turkey by Advertising Age and MediaCat in 2013. For the last four years she is listed as one of top 10 female CEOs in Turkey, by Fortune and The Economist magazines. Demet began her professional career in 1993 at Güzel Sanatlar/Saatchi&Saatchi as a media planning assistant. She joined Zenith Media in 1996 as Group Account Director when the agency was founded in Turkey as part of the Güzel Sanatlar Group and became Deputy Managing Director in 1998, a position she held for two years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Istanbul University. She is married and has a son.
