After graduating as a Linguistics major from Hacettepe University, he taught English for a while and later worked as a tour operator in the tourism sector. While he had always been writing stories as a student and during these working years, he turned this hobby into his job and started writing professionally in 1997. He founded his own production company, named MinT (short for Made in Turkey) and produced 50 TV shows and over 2,000 episodes along with his team of screenwriters. One of his TV shows, Çocuklar Duymasin (Never in Front of the Kids) has had so much rating success that even its reruns were the most watched TV program on the days they were broadcast during 2002-2004. Güven also entered the film industry with feature films like 'Bayrampasa Ben Fazla Kalmayacagim (I Won't Be Staying Long in Prison)', 'Dersimiz Atatürk (Our Lesson: Ataturk)', 'Mandira Filozofu (Dairy Philosopher)' and 'Mandira Filozofu Istanbul (Dairy Philosopher Istanbul)'. The movie 'Güzel Günler Görecegiz (We Will See Good Days)', which he co-produced, won the Best Movie Award at the Antalya Film Festival. He is a founding member of both the Scriptwriters - Directors Association of Turkey and the Producers Association of Turkey and also became the president of the Television and Cinema Film Producers Association of Turkey and the Producers Association of Turkey. Birol Güven is the founder and the chairman of MinT Film Production Inc., the fastest growing production company in the film industry. Birol Güven has three published books: Tatil Diyaloglari (Holiday Dialogues), Yatak Odasi Diyaloglari (Bedroom Dialogues), Teneke Üzerinde Midyeden Sosyeteyle Susiye (From Eating Mussels on a Can to Having Sushi with the Socialites).
